After a couple of months of delays, the newest World of Beer location is set to debut in the South Campus Gateway this fall. Local franchise owners Darren Greene and Mark Pottschmidt provided Columbus Underground with a tour yesterday to showcase the new bar ahead of a targeted Labor Day Weekend opening.
“We just need a little help from our friends with the great state of Ohio on our permits and inspections,” explained Pottschmidt. “We’re hoping to get our final inspections done next week and stock the beer coolers the following week.”
The new bar-and-restaurant will be the third Central Ohio location for World of Beer, and the largest as well, with over 4,000 square feet of indoor space coupled with a large outdoor patio and additional communal beer garden seating throughout the alley. Inside, customers can expect to find the same large selection of drafts and over 500 bottled varieties of beer from all around the world. Lounge seating and large TVs will flank one end of the space while a stage for live music will anchor the other.
“We’ll also have a full kitchen here with our tavern fare menu,” added Pottschmidt. “It will be similar to what we just rolled out at Easton, though our kitchen will give us a little more room here.”
While retail tenants have continued to churn at the South Campus Gateway, both Pottschmidt and Greene feel confident that the new location will work well for students, for faculty, for visitors and beyond.
“This area is changing rapidly,” said Greene. “Edwards is building new apartments to the south and a six story apartment building will replace the Taco Bell right across the street. We plan to serve customers from Weinland Park and the Short North just as much as the University District.”
