World of Beer Opening South Campus Gateway Beer Garden
Nothing goes together quite like college students and beer. To that end, World of Beer is working on opening their third location in Columbus with a new South Campus Gateway location that will serve student, faculty, visitors and locals alike. Additionally, the new bar will be larger than both the 3,900 square foot Brewery District original that opened in 2011, and the 2,900 square foot Easton Town Center expansion that opened in 2012. The Gateway version boasts over 4,100 square feet of indoor space with an even larger outdoor space.
“Our permanent patio is around 2400 square feet, but we’ll be able to expand that seasonally into a 4,500 square foot beer garden that will take over much of the alley between the parking garage and High Street,” explained Mark Pottschmidt, local franchise partner at World of Beer. “We hope to have it operational from St. Patrick’s Day through the Michigan Game every year.”
Guests inside the beer garden area will have their choice of food from any of the restaurants within, including burritos from Mad Mex and pizza by the slice from Pizza Rustica. World of Beer will also have their own kitchen for the first time in a Columbus location.
“The World of Beer concept has evolved since we last opened a store,” said Pottschmidt. “The look and feel has also evolved to reflect the craft beer culture. It’s hard to explain, but there will be a new look that differs from our other two locations.”
Pottschmidt admits that the OSU area has been on their radar even prior to opening in the Brewery District in 2011, but the ideal opportunity didn’t present itself until recently. Conversations with Keith Myers (Associate Vice President of Physical Planning and Real Estate at OSU) and Amanda Hoffsis (President of Campus Partners) let them to explore more creative ways to re-energize the South Campus Gateway alleyway.
The Gateway World of Beer is scheduled to open in March 2015.
