World of Beer Closes Brewery District Location

The local franchise operators behind the Columbus World of Beer locations have announced tonight their decision to close their Brewery District bar effective immediately.

“It was a difficult decision and a difficult day as Brewery District was our first venture together and an incredible place to grab a craft beer,” said WoB franchise owner Mark Pottschmidt speaking on behalf of himself and partner Darren Greene.

Pottschmidt noted that the lack of a kitchen at the Brewery District made the business less profitable compared to their Easton Town Center and South Campus Gateway locations.

“After opening WOB kitchens with Tavern Fare menus at our Easton and High Street locations, it has become obvious that a kitchen would be needed to ensure our long term success in the Brewery District,” he stated. “While the Worly Building may be one of the best places in Columbus to have a beer, it cannot be easily retrofitted with a full kitchen.”

As far as what the future holds for 503 South Front Street, Pottschmidt thinks that a new beer-based business could do well there.

“It would make a great tap room for one of the up and coming local breweries,” he said.
