The former HER Realtors building at 77 E. Nationwide Blvd. has been demolished, and vertical construction is scheduled to start this summer on a 12-story hotel on the site.

The Canopy by Hilton hotel will have 167 rooms and feature a first-floor bar and restaurant in addition to a rooftop bar with two separate outdoor spaces providing downtown views.

“We are thrilled to be bringing this new high-end, lifestyle brand to Columbus,” said Alan Assaf, Chief Operations Officer of Columbus-based Indus Hotels.

The project was approved by the Downtown Commission in October of 2015 after going through multiple design iterations.

The new hotel, which will sit directly across the street from the Greater Columbus Convention Center, will not have its own parking. A covered drop-off area will allow hotel guests to check in and access valet services, with cars entering from Nationwide Boulevard and exiting to East Locust Street.

Assaf said that the building should take between 15 and 18 months to build.
