Women’s Premier Soccer League Expanding to Columbus
The Columbus Eagles FC is the newest addition to the sports landscape of Columbus. The Eagles are an expansion team of the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL). The WPSL was formed in 1998 and currently has 68 teams from all across the United States. The league is sanctioned by the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA), which is an affiliate of the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) and FIFA, the ruling bodies of soccer in the US and the world, respectively.
The Eagles’ full schedule has not been released yet, however, their opener is set for Sunday, May 25th. The WPSL season runs from May 1st through August 1st, so games will take place during that time period. The Eagles will play five home games and five away games during the 2014 season. Home games will take place at The Wellington School in Upper Arlington.
The team’s roster is made up of former and current collegiate soccer players, many of whom are originally from central Ohio.
