Winans Fine Chocolates & Coffees Expands from Dayton to German Village
German Village will be gaining a new coffee and chocolate shop this Wednesday when Winans opens their doors at the corner of Third and Whittier.
Winans has roots in Ohio that trace back to the late 1800s. There are currently four locations in the Dayton, owned by Joe and Laurie Reiser. Local partners Jason and Brittany Bainum are working on expanding the brand to Columbus.
“Joe and I became friends during our time working together at the Columbus Chamber a few years ago,” said Jason. “He would always talk about opening a store in Columbus, so I told him that when he was ready, we would enjoy partnering with him.”
Jason explained that German Village made the most sense when determining a location in Columbus.
“Winans is a proud German-rooted company and we know that German Village is a community that embraces small businesses,” he said.
Coffee drinks featured at Winans range from single origin pour-over drop coffee to a full assortment of espresso drinks. Whole bean coffees will also be sold for home brewing enthusiasts.
“Joe sources special coffees from around the world,” said Jason. “He travels often to coffee growing regions and has special relationships with many coffee farmers.”
Of course, Winans is known for their long history of making chocolates and will feature individual hand-made treats as well as chocolate barks, organic chocolates and chocolate covered pretzels.
“Our best seller is a treat called The Wurtle, which is a combination of roasted almonds, cashews, or pecans combined with creamy caramel then coated in chocolate,” said Jason. “Winans is also currently in the process of the first planting of their very own organic, fair trade, rain forest alliance certified, single origin cacao farm in Honduras.”
Winans Columbus opens on Wednesday, July 13 at 897 South Third Street in German Village.
“Our store will be open early for the commuters and stay open late for all those out enjoying the sites of German Village,” said Jason.
