Where to Partake in Yoga With Brews in Columbus

One should have respect for both alcohol and yoga, but for those so inclined to practice both asana and imbibing, we have a list of opportunities for yoga along with your favorite beverages this summer in Columbus, with some events raising funds for good causes.

“Brew-ga offers a relaxed and low-key environment for simply trying out yoga or maintaining your regular practice,” says Clarissa Pape of Brewga Craft Yoga, who along with her friendly crew, has been doing yoga among the yeasty tanks at Endeavor Brewing at 909 W. Fifth Ave. for over three years.

“We have not had one bad review,” says tap room staffer, Austin Heath of Endeavor. Pape and her sub teacher Lauren Alexander both took GoYoga’s teacher training program in Belize and have laid-back flow classes that are very beginner friendly. Sessions are timed for Sundays at 11 a.m. so students can hang out at the brewery afterward at noon. Endeavor’s brewmaster, Cameron Lloyd, keeps a range of flavorful beers on tap and rotating food trucks visit the patio. The first class is free and it is only $5 after that.

“It is yoga for the community,” says Pape.

This summer MatHappy and Balanced Yoga are doing yoga sessions outdoors at the Hilliard Station. “Motivation at the Station” takes place from 8 – 9 a.m. every Saturday morning thru August 4. “Downtown Hilliard has become pretty hip,” notes MatHappy co-owner Kelly Mehring. The yoga is free and there are several nice drinking places in the surrounding area. The last session of the summer is scheduled to have live music, too. Visit Hilliard Station for more info.

Of course, some of us should avoid alcohol for more than yogic reasons, and many people use yoga to start and maintain sobriety. In Columbus, Ashtanga Yoga Columbus, GoYoga, and Yoga Happiness in particular host AA, NA meetings, and other events to help individuals and affected families deal with addiction issues.
