Erin (Velt) and Benjamin Lupton are a couple that grew up in Columbus and excitedly planned their wedding to feature beautiful parts of the city.
“I always wanted an elegant fall wedding in the heart of Columbus with colors of purple, green, and gray,” says Erin Lupton. “We did not have a specific theme, but we wanted our guests to know how much we love Columbus, the city we both grew up in, and everything it has to offer.”
The couple live in Victorian Village and had their ceremony at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
“This church is a hidden gem in Victorian Village,” says Lupton. “As Catholic churches go, it is much more simpler and smaller than most and created a more intimate atmosphere for a wedding. When I walked into it for the first time, I knew I wanted to get married there.”
The beautiful oval dome over the alter and beautiful stain glass windows lining the walls give the church a beautiful glow. Father David Poliafico officiated the ceremony. He has known the bride since she was in the fifth grade.
“Father David is a very close family friend and made the ceremony very special,” shares Lupton.
They chose the Sheraton Columbus Hotel at Capitol Square for their reception. “We knew we wanted a venue in the heart of downtown Columbus since we love the city and live in Victorian Village,” says Lupton. “We also liked the idea of having a reception in a hotel so that is more convenient for guests from out of town.”
The Sheraton was able to provide a reception area with a wing closed off to the rest of the hotel, making the wedding seem more private for the couple’s 200 guests.
The bride wore a strapless, all lace dress with a sweetheart neckline, designed by Tara Keely. She found it at Girls in White Dresses in the Arena District.
“It was actually the first dress I tried on and knew it was the one instantly,” she says. She finished the look with a sparkle-detail belt, as well as a veil and earrings from Girls in White Dresses.
Amrynn Conley, an independent wedding hair and makeup specialist working at J Carmen Salon in Westerville, did the bride’s wedding hair and makeup. “Amrynn’s been doing my hair since she I was 16!”
“The best part of our wedding was spending time with the people we care about and sharing our happiness and love with them,” says Lupton. “It’s only once in your life that you get the opportunity to put everyone you love into one room and throw a party for all of them.”
The couple honeymooned at the Westin Playa Conchal, an all-inclusive resort on the Costa Rican coast.
