Restaurants and bars are constantly opening, closing, expanding, changing ownership and transforming. The constant cycle is what keeps the dining scene interesting in Columbus, and allows for new opportunities for those interested in entrepreneurship to get involved.

Local business broker Randy Sokol of Sokol & Associations is well known for their involvement with restaurant transactions, and a quick look at the company’s listings reveals a wide variety of businesses currently for sale. Sokol says that the large number for sale isn’t reflective of a larger economic issue.

“I think the restaurant / bar scene in Columbus is pretty strong at this time,” he stated. “Not only are local operators opening restaurants, we have restaurant owners from other cities, that are bringing their operations to town.”

Sokol said that the current list of restaurants and bars is pretty consistent in size with what has been on the market in recent years.

“This list for sale is no bigger than it has been for the last five years,” he added. “One must remember that there are many reasons that restaurants close up or sell, not just because of lack of business.”
