The Dispatch wrote Downtown bookseller to close doors

Waldenbooks posted a notice this week advising shoppers its last day of operation will be Sept. 13. Most merchandise was marked down between 40 percent and 75 percent. Business was brisk today, with many people buying multiple items.

Waldenbooks’ departure will leave the mall with no national chain stores, following the recent departure of Radio Shack. A handful of local stores such as the Mischief luggage store and A Dollar store remain, along with fast-food outlets including Subway and Mark Pi’s Express.

The co-owner of one of the few stores still in the mall said City Center management has not been forthcoming about plans for the future. “They don’t tell us anything,” said Anna Cua. “Most of our leases here go through the end of the year. After that, I don’t know.”
