Virginia Brewery Devil’s Backbone Continues Ohio Launch in Columbus

In an effort to break into the Columbus market, Virginia brewery Devil’s Backbone held a dinner at Short North’s Barrel on High last night. It was a melding of two businesses’ and two states’ crafts, pairing chef Chris East of Barrel’s five course meal with five beers from Devil’s Backbone.

It’s part of Devil’s Backbone’s Ohio launch, starting in Cincinnati and ending in Cleveland, and Barrel was their first Columbus stop. The night started with scallops, took guests through three more courses, including a spring salad with pears, thai chili brussel sprouts tossed with pork belly, and espresso-rubbed steak, and finished off with a double chocolate stout ice cream sandwich with chocolate sauce made from Devil’s Backbone’s Cocoa Bear stout. With each course came another sample of beer, from their Vienna Lager to their Pear Lager, to the Eight Point IPA — Devil’s Backbone’s first brew ever. Their Black Lager and Cocoa Bear stout finished up the meal.

After Barrel’s Beer Dinner, they’ll continue their Columbus Launch Week Jubilee at the Pint House tonight for a family Tap Takeover at 6 p.m. From there they’ll head to King Avenue Five for a Company Tap Takeover with music from Apple Bottom Gang, The Grove, Highwire Kicks, and Sunrise Reset, also at 6 p.m. Then they’re off to Cleveland.
