The Candle Lab Announces Three Big Updates

The Candle Lab unveiled a trio of news updates yesterday: they will be closing their Powell store on Monday, they will be launching a mobile business this Spring, and they will be adding beer and wine to their remaining three stores in Grandview, Worthington and The Short North.

“This promises to be a very exciting year for the company, including launching a mobile store in a trailer that we can tow to arts festivals, craft shows and even your home or wedding to pour candles,” said Steven Weaver, Owner of The Candle Lab. “This is going to open up many new opportunities for us and take our custom candle experience to a bigger audience.”

The Powell store has been open for three years and will officially close at the end of the day on Sunday, February 23rd.

“Rest assured that our other stores won’t be closing and our business is stronger than it’s ever been,” said Weaver. “We have had to make some tough choices this year to continue with the growth plan we put in motion. It’s always a painful process to close a store that you have worked so hard to build, but we’re excited to show you what we have planned for the company in the future.”

One of the most frequent requests that Weaver has gotten is for the Candle Lab to cater to parties and event located outside their store. That includes weddings, fundraisers, festivals and other parties and events. The new mobile truck-and-trailer will address those requests, allowing a food-truck-style approach to the candle pouring business model.

“On the weekends, we plan to take the trailer to regional arts festivals, community events, and any other place where large groups of people are gathered,” said Weaver. “During the week, we will take the trailer to people’s homes for kids’ birthday parties and adult candle-and-wine parties.  This is going to open up a lot of new markets for us and bring the custom candle experience to a much wider audience.”

The truck and trailer is expected to launch in mid-April.

Also debuting in April is the addition of beer and wine to the Worthington, Grandview and Short North retail locations.

“We’ve hosted a lot of candle parties in our stores over the years, and wine is usually involved in some way,” explained Weaver. “People can bring wine into our Worthington store to enjoy in our private party room, and a visit to a nearby wine bar or restaurant to enjoy a bottle of wine is the most popular way to wait for your candles to set.  A whole lot of wine has been consumed in and around our candles over the years, so now it’s time we make it a little easier for you.”

Weaver says that the details are still being worked out, but expects a limited menu of drinks only available to those who are participating in the candle making process.

“We have no intentions of turning our stores into a bar scene, and we will work to make sure we create a family-friendly atmosphere at all times, as we do now,” he added. “You will still have to head out to find a place to wait for your candles to set, but we think your scent blend and candle label will be more creative with a little sip of wine during the process.”
