Gypsy brewer Pat Sullivan has found a (semi) permanent home in northwest Columbus. He’s established Somewhere in Particular Brewing, a spinoff from his nomadic brewing company Nowhere in Particular (NIP), at 5053 Dierker Rd.
The brewery is part of a 2,500-square-foot addition to the original Henderson House, a more than 100-year-old-building. It also hosts a taproom, kitchen, and an outdoor dining area that by next spring will be a beer garden. The house itself is transitioning into an Airbnb and event space.
Co-owners John Farrar and Joe Casey (of eight total partners) started looking for a brewer a year and a half ago, first reaching out to Sullivan to gauge his interest in creating a sister business to NIP. With several hurdles in the way — requesting variances for a historic house, getting the Baptist church across the street to sign off on a neighboring brewery — Sullivan was originally doubtful that plans would come together.
But, the project was able to break ground in February, and NIP was on board.
NIP first launched in 2014, and Sullivan has taken over friends’ brewing systems from California to North Carolina.
“Basically, I have a lot of friends in the industry, and if they have any open tank space and they have the opportunity to fill it with something, they call me and let me brew with their system,” Sullivan says.
Once NIP brews a new beer, it’s distributed to select states and regions.
That said, what’s brewed at Somewhere in Particular stays at Somewhere in Particular. The taproom offers four SIP beers, including a Belgian table beer, a double IPA, a single IPA, and a dark Baltic porter. They sit alongside other Ohio brews from Jackie O’s, CBC, and Toxic.
The menu is expansive, offering a handful of small plates, a selection of pizzas and subs, and a range of entrees. John McKee helms the kitchen, with the help of Josh Wiest, who’s head chef at South Village Grille in German Village.
Somewhere in Particular Brewing opens on Friday, Oct. 19. It’s open from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday, and from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
