The term, "Diaspora" usually refers to populations who are forced to leave their homeland. The African Diaspora includes Africans and Blacks who were forcefully displaced by the Transatlantic slave trade. Throughout the 20th century, many creatives of African descent have addressed the diaspora in context. Likewise, the contemporary artists of this exhibit will address the ongoing effects of cultural displacement and will illustrate the political climate of their homelands.
