Two New Restaurants Coming Soon Downtown: Speck Italian Eatery and Grande Rue
Two new restaurants were formally announced today in Downtown Columbus during a virtual showcase hosted by CASTO and The Edwards Companies. Speck Italian Eatery will open inside one of the retail spaces in the recently constructed The Nicholas building on High Street between Gay Street and Long Street, while Grande Rue launches across High in the former Cafe Brioso space.
Chef Josh Dalton of Veritas is involved in both projects, according to virtual event host Sydney Federer, Senior Leasing Director at CASTO. The original Speck Italian Eatery opened in 2019 in Delaware, focusing on a contemporary take on classic Italian cuisine. Grande Rue is a brand new concept described as a French Bistro.
According to renderings submitted to the Downtown Commission for review in October, Grande Rue will entail a major renovation to the ground floor of the building located at the northeast corner of Gay Street and High Street. That process will include opening up a second floor mezzanine for additional seating, the construction of a new kitchen in the building next door and an extensive patio overhaul that will give the corner a major facelift.
“Both are going to get started here this winter, which is super exciting,” stated Federer, referring to construction timelines.
Each restaurant will measure approximately 3,000 square feet in size. No opening dates for either location have been announced as of yet.
