Two Dollar Radio’s Flyover Fest is Back May 10 – 12
Two Dollar Radio announced the lineup for this year’s Flyover Fest. An amalgamation of literature, film and musical performances, Flyover Fest takes place this year from Thursday, May 10 through Saturday, May 12 inside several venues around the city. Headlining are musical acts Open Mike Eagle, Yowler, and Wyd, with many others filling out the schedule.
“There’s an exciting flow to the schedule of events, and a lot of range by those performing,” said Two Dollar Radio’s Brett Gregory in a press release.
The three-day festival kicks off at Two Dollar Radio headquarters, 1124 Parsons Ave., with the performance of local band Yowler. They and their album The Offer were featured on NPR and praised by Pitchfork last year. Yowler are the sole act for Thursday evening.
Friday, the party branches off into four venues: the Wexner Center for the Arts, for a showing of Guy Maddin’s The Green Fog; Bossy Grrls Pin Up Joint, for readings by Jose Olivarez, Will Evans, Eloisa Amezcua, and Brian Allen Carr; Ace of Cups, for performances by Mothers, Counterfeit Madison and Steven King; and Spacebar, for show by Daddy Issues, Nnamdi Ogbonnaya, Smut, and Van Dale.
On Saturday, fest-goers (and the rest of the public) can head to Ace of Cups bright and early at 11 a.m. for the book and record fair, hosted by Jeni’s. The fair will feature roughly thirty “independent book publishers, record labels, comics writers and artists, and booksellers, from all across the United States.” That’ll run until 5 p.m., then making room for a showing of Edward II, “one of the landmark films of the early 1990’s New Queer Cinema in a new restoration.”
Fest-ers can head to Bossy Grrls at 6 p.m., too, for an episode of the Paging Columbus Reading Series. It’ll feature readings from Marcus Jackson, Rachel Wiley, and Jenn Marie Nunes.
At the Wexner Center for the Arts, artists Milo, Hanif Abdurraqib, Kaveh Akbar and Jacoti Sommes will take over the Black Box Theater. And at Spacebar, Open Mike Eagle, Sarob and Wyd, will claim the stage.
“Open Mike Eagle is such a dynamic, exciting performer,” said Justin McIntosh, festival organizer, in the release. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to bring him to Columbus. And with Yowler and Wyd on board, it’s great to be able to offer such a variety of acts.”
