    Treat to Try: Timbiebs

I’m honestly not sure where singer Justin Bieber stands in popular opinion these days. He started as a teen dream, and then somehow he became a bad-boy, and now he’s married and religious, and probably still singing. I’m not sure.

But he’s definitely doing doughnuts. Which seems like an excellent career choice.

Tim Horton’s and Bieber proudly announced the debut of Timbiebs in late November. If you’re a Tim Horton’s fan, then you might recognize Timbiebs as a play on Timbits, which is what Tim Horton’s calls its doughnut holes. Timbiebs are new limited-edition flavor options approved, and possibly concocted by, Bieber himself. The first three Bieber flavors to be released are Chocolate White Fudge, Sour Cream Chocolate Chip, and Birthday Cake Waffle.

As luck would have it, you can score these flavors locally here in Columbus. While all three are available at your neighborhood Tim Horton’s stop, Birthday Cake Waffle is truly the best of the bunch. The very first bite earns a consistent WOW in informal taste tests. The flavor has all the intense surgary charge of regular birthday cake offerings, PLUS a charming little maple accent . . . and colorful sprinkles in the doughnut batter itself. So it scores cute points right along with flavor points.

Of course, palate exhaustion means it’s a good idea to order all three flavors, just to keep things fresh. The other two versions have a good dose of icing and something akin to streusel, so they have their own charms. The Chocolate White Fudge is pretty much a chocolate doughnut hole with enough icing to crystalize and some streusel-ish stuff. The Sour Cream one had good icing levels too, and teeny chocolate chips clinging to its outside sugar crumbles.

It’s not artisan eating, but it’s entertaining. There’s also apparently a line of apparel to match. We didn’t try that, but for real fans, it’s a real option.
