Treat to Try: Portable Pies by OMEGA Artisan Baking

OMEGA Artisan Baking debuted a new item today, a grown up version of a PopTart. “We do a larger handpie in the summer, but we thought these would be fun,” says owner Amy Lozier. Manager Brian Ellingwood has so far developed two versions, a blueberry and a Nutella.

Each pie is a folded-over buttery short crust which makes each one about 4 inches tall and 2 and a half inches wide. A dense blueberry compote that’s not too sweet fills the flaky layers of the blueberry version, which is topped with a blueberry sugar icing. A thick layer of Nutella rests inside the Nutella version and is decorated on top with Nutella as well.

For now, these are available at Omega Artisan Bakery inside of the North Market only on Saturdays for $2.95 each. More flavors are being developed.
