Treat to Try: Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Cheesecake

With the arrival of colder weather, eating season is well upon us. In particular, the heyday for pumpkin stuff kicks off in October with the arrival of Halloween, and it thrives right on through Thanksgiving, making its annual appearance in the form of the requisite pumpkin pie.

Let it be said: pumpkin pie has never been a personal favorite.

    There it is.

In spite of its holiday associations, pumpkin pie never seemed particularly crave-worthy in all its coppery, custardy smoothness. So, the introduction of pumpkin-cheesecake as a holiday dessert option has been a giant boon. You get all the integrity and tradition of a pumpkin pie, in a rich, heady, heavy cheesecake package. It’s a natural merger.

The Cheesecake Girl takes it one step further: Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Cheesecake.

While chocolate doesn’t necessarily make every dessert better, it truly works in the mix here. We have chocolate shortbread crust, pumpkin-tinged cheesecake flecked with chocolate chips, and then a luxe chocolate sauce on top. It’s dense and silky and each bite is worth a little pause for appreciation.

Beyond the glory of this pumpkin concoction, The Cheesecake Girl makes a variety of other cakes and goodies at its Upper Arlington bakery. With more than fifty cheesecake flavors, the options include Banana Foster Cheesecake, Donut Cheesecake, as well as various glorious mutants that team layers of something like Texas Sheet Cake or Carrot Cake with a layer of cheesecake. There are also cookie sandwiches, cheesecake shooters, as well as booze-injected mini-cakes. You can also order vegan and/or gluten-free versions.

While you can special-order your cheesecakes directly from her, you can get a quicker fix from several local spots that carry her wares. Locations include Coffee Connections, C.Krueger’s, Sunny Street Cafe and both locations of Hills Market.
