Bacon, Egg & Cheese Bread is a product from Sugar B Bakery (so, it can qualify as a “sweet” treat by the sugary name alone, right?). It’s a Galena-based home-bakery that’s easy to find now that farmers market season is in full bloom. The bakery makes regular appearances at markets in Westerville and Clintonville too.

Under the crust, the bread itself takes on an almost golden hue, with a tender, light texture (courtesy the egg), and bits and bots of lean bacon distributed throughout.
Waitaminute. That’s not bacon. It has the texture of bacon, it has the flavor of bacon, but the ingredient list discloses “soy chiplets” which are comprised of bacon flavor, salt and soy. While toast and jelly might not the most optimal pairing for this sort of bread, it does just fine grilled and slathered with melted butter, or as an element in an over-the-top BLT with summer tomatoes, mayo, and perhaps more cheese to gild the lily.
Sugar B Bakery bakes more than bacon-bread, its offerings shift depending on the season and availability. Other options found at farmers markets have included scones, bagels and sweet bread variations. The Bacon Egg & Cheese Bread wasn’t especially cheap, but $7 still seems like good value when you consider the loaf’s heft and and potential applications…
