Trans activist, educator, entrepreneur and adult performer, Buck Angel, is coming to Columbus in June. Presented by GCJ University, and through a partnership between The Garden on High, Stonewall Columbus, Equitas Health and BRAVO, Angel will present two of his films at the kick-off of Pride month.
Angel started his career producing and starring in his own adult films under Buck Angel Entertainment. He’s used the resulting platform to educate and advocate for trans rights, appearing at universities like Yale, Cornell and others to speak on the fluidity of sexuality and identity politics. Receiving backlash from the cis and trans community alike, Angel released his own PSAs, on positive body image, LGBTQ family acceptance, queer people of color, and transgender health and wellbeing. He also contributed to Dan Savage’s “It Gets Better” campaign.
His films Mr. Angel (2013) and Sexing the Transman (2011) will screen on June 3, each followed by a Q&A session and conversation that Angel will facilitate.
Mr. Angel “chronicles the life of Buck Angel, his struggles, survival, and success as a trans activist, educator, and porn pioneer,” while Sexing the Transman, “winner of the 2012 Feminist Porn Awards, explores the effect of transition on the sexualities of four transmen.”
Both films will screen at The CCAD Canzani Center Screening Room on the corner of Cleveland Avenue and Gay Street. They require attendees to be 18 years of age or older. The general admission price is $10 for one film, $16 for both. VIP tickets, which earn front row seating, a pre-film meet and greet with Angel, a signed DVD, and a gift bag, cost $20 for one film and $30 for both.
