In March we learned that Hilliard would be losing a movie theater with the closure of the Movie Tavern at Mill Run. The brand operated the theater for a full decade before coming to a close in April of this year.
New restaurant and bar Biscuit & Branch was well received by CU readers in 2017, who were excited to have a new place to dine on southern comfort food and sip drinks during Gallery Hop. The restaurant was short lived in that iteration though, as it was officially rebranded as “Branch” in October, with a new chef, new menu, and new drink focus on bourbon.
One of the most beloved speciality stores in Ohio met its end in 2017, when The Andersons announced that it would be closing all retail locations (two in Columbus, two in Toledo). The parent company operates a multi-billion dollar agribusiness, and shuttering the retail businesses was likely viewed as a minor cost saving measure.
It was a sad day in February to announce that Salt & Pine would be closing its doors. The restaurant was named the #2 best new restaurant of 2015, and the #2 best overall restaurant of 2016. Despite the closure, parent company Grow Restaurants has continued to open other concepts like Cosecha Cocina and new locations of Harvest Pizzeria.
While the original news about the North Market Tower first broke in 2016, the ongoing announcements continued to stir up big interest throughout 2017.
