Top 10 Neighborhoods in Columbus of 2017

Columbus (and Greater Central Ohio) has a diverse range of neighborhoods, suburbs and regions that offer a wide variety of places to live. When we survey our readers annually about the top places to live, we don’t ask about specifically what they’re looking for (apartments vs homes, one bedroom vs five bedrooms, family arrangement vs single lifestyle) so the results of this poll are a bit broad. That being said, our readers nominated Downtown as the best neighborhood to live in all of Columbus.

With a residential population of approximately 8,500 people, Downtown Columbus has gone through a renaissance since the turn of the century, with over 140% growth during that timeframe. Like many central business districts in major cities, Downtown Columbus commands some of the highest prices for both apartments and condos, making it an aspirational place to live for many people who cannot afford the higher price points. The City of Columbus has led the charge for local developers to include more opportunities for Downtown “workforce housing” priced for middle income residents, but demand continues to outpace supply on new construction.

Regardless of whether or not you live Downtown, the neighborhood offers top amenities to all residents of the region — brand new public parks, historic performing arts theaters, and some of the top restaurants and nightlife options — making it what some have dubbed “everyone’s neighborhood”.
