2018 was a big year for the movies. With a record setting domestic box office take of $11.5 billion, this was a turnaround year after many had predicted that Netflix (and other streaming services) had killed the theater star. Of course, the bulk of the big ticket movies of the year are composed of comic book action extravaganzas and other proven properties in the form of sequels, prequels and spinoffs.
When it comes to ranking the best local theaters though, our readers and editors tend to steer more toward the independently owned venues and places where locals can find a unique experience over the chain multiplex. And once again, Studio 35 has topped the list. The historic Clintonville locale continues to service fans of blockbusters and independents alike with a mix of special events, beer pairings and cult classics.
