THREAD on wheels to be unveiled Saturday

The sisters behind THREAD on Grandview are takin’ their fashionable finds to the streets.

Since opening their women’s clothing boutique in January, Miranda Boyle and Sara Guice have gotten several requests from out-of-town friends and family to host private parties in their homes. They both liked the idea, but didn’t want to sacrifice THREAD’s ambiance and customer service.

To retain that unique shopping experience, Boyle came up with the concept of a mobile boutique, and THREAD on wheels was born.

On Saturday at 5:30 p.m., she and Guice will officially unveil THREAD on wheels in front of their shop at 1306 Grandview Ave. The 31-foot Airstream dates back to 1972, and features reclaimed wood flooring, custom shelving, and décor purchased from various Central Ohio merchants.

“The driftwood mirrors we found at The Collection are truly statement pieces,” said Guice.

Boyle has been the driving force behind THREAD’s visual merchandising, and the store’s aesthetic −which she describes as bohemian, tranquil, warm and inviting− will be carried over to the mobile boutique.

“We have so many customers who say they feel at home when they come in, and we love to hear that,” Guice said.

Boyle worked in retail for more than 15 years, opening and managing the Banana Republic at Easton Town Center and working as a manager at Leal, before electing to stay home with her three daughters. In addition to THREAD’s visual merchandising, she is responsible for buying and styling.

Guice worked in finance for four years before moving to Israel and France, where she stayed home with her son and four daughters for almost a decade; most recently she worked at an asset management firm. At THREAD, she handles accounting, technology, human resources, and media relations.

“We always talked about opening a store together and after 10 years of brainstorming and dreaming, we were blessed with families who not only encouraged us, but made it possible for THREAD to become a reality,” Guice said.

The sisters also rely heavily on the shop’s staff.

“We have an extraordinary group of dedicated THREAD team members,” she said. “They are awesome and we could not do it without them.”

The THREAD team will also be traveling with Guice and Boyle as they make their way from party to party with clothing and accessories by Nicole Miller, Hudson, Current/Elliott, Rebecca Minkoff, Pluma Jewelry, Bella Beads Studio Jewelry, and more.

“We have our first parties booked next week in Columbus, and we will be going on road trips to Indianapolis, Birmingham, and Cincinnati in September,” Guice said. “We’ll be tailgating before a Buckeyes game September 8th for the Central Florida game.”

All who attend the THREAD on wheels unveiling celebration will be treated to hors d’oeuvres and karaoke. The first 50 attendees will get swag bags with goodies from “Grandview’s finest merchants,” Boyle said.
