Columbus nearly lost one of its favorite performers to Boston, but Jason Quicksall decided to stay put and is bringing back the Monday night Cowtown Round singer-songwriter series at Rumba Café.
Jason and Jesse Henry of The Spikedrivers will co-host the performances, which kick off this evening with Miss Molly.
Each Cowtown Round performance will feature Jason, Jesse, and a rotating guest musician. All three will take turns playing each other’s songs. It’s a personal and interactive way for musicians to divulge their songwriting inspirations and for audience members to ask questions. Future guest artists include Joey Hebdo on October 19, Megan Palmer on November 2, Josh Krajcik on November 9, Jon Elliott of The Floorwalkers on November 16, Branden Barnett of Ghost Shirt on November 23, and Andy Shaw on November 30. Each performance runs from 10:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. and costs $5 to attend.
“These songwriter formats have been around for a while,” Jason said. After playing in songwriter rounds in other cities, he wanted to bring them to Columbus. “They’re kind of Nashville-style and have more of a casual feel.” He hopes that acoustic music fans will give Cowtown Round a try. “If you want to see musicians in an accessible and stripped down format, this is the way to do it,” he said. “Some of my favorite local performers are sitting in with us, and I think we’re really going to have some fun.”
