The Angry Baker brand is spreading throughout the Columbus area, getting a third location in Upper Arlington this past weekend.
The Angry Bakery, the baked goods-centric offshoot of the full Angry Baker restaurant, has replaced Purple Sage Bakery at 1962 N. Mallway Dr. Purple Sage closed its storefront earlier this month, leaving behind an intimate space that co-owner Erin Hall says is the ideal spot to further expand their bakery operations.
“We weren’t actually searching for a third location,” says Hall, who became co-owner when their Short North location opened in 2018. “Purple Sage bakery was looking to sell their retail spot in Upper Arlington and contacted us to see if we were interested. It was an opportunity that we just couldn’t pass up.”
Similar to the Short North location, Angry Bakery UA is a coffee shop and bakery only, though they do intend to add some grab-and-go breakfast and lunch options in the near future. Espresso, lattes, cold brew and drip coffee are all sourced from Brioso Coffee Roasters, and Hall says the roastery has been “a huge help in opening this location.” Starting March 20, Angry Bakery will begin offering fresh squeezed orange juice. They also have assorted pastries and cakes brought from the Short North store. As always, everything is 100 percent vegan.
While the space mostly caters to take-out orders, there are some seats for dine-in customers. The interior is still undergoing some cosmetic changes, but the UA Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and the store officially opened on Friday, March 15.
Angry Baker is also in the middle of some name changes. Their Olde Towne East location will maintain the Angry Baker moniker; the Short North location, currently known as Angry Baker Cakes & Pastries, and their new location in Upper Arlington, will be known as The Angry Bakery.
The Angry Bakery UA will be open seven days per week: Monday from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., Tuesday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
