What makes a neighborhood great is a very personal definition. Some people prefer being able to walk to nearby restaurants and nightlife while others want to be close to parks and nature. We surveyed our readers about the most important neighborhoods of 2019, and the list shifted pretty drastically compared to last year’s rankings.
In the number one spot this year is Franklinton. The closest neighborhood to the west of Downtown Columbus, Franklinton has seen some pretty drastic changes over the past 10 years. Some of the largest empty lots, abandoned warehouses and low-income housing projects have been replaced by local beer breweries, art studios and Millennial-centric mixed-use apartment complexes.
Some of the big news from 2019 in Franklinton includes the completion of large scale housing developments Gravity and River & Rich (both of which have second phases that are likely to break ground in early 2020), and the grand opening of new destinations including Roosevelt Coffee House, ROY G BIV Gallery and Taft’s Brewpourium.
