The Top 10 Columbus Neighborhoods of 2018
Columbus is a city of neighborhoods, as Mayor Andrew Ginther loves to proclaim. Each has its own unique characteristics, its own set of amenities and its own challenges to overcome. We survey our readers and editors each year to help select the top neighborhood in the city, generally focusing on its overall livability. And for the first time in a decade, German Village has risen to the top of the charts.
With nearly 200 years of history, German Village is one of the first residential neighborhoods in the City of Columbus, and thanks to historic preservation efforts that began in the 1950s, much of it remains intact today.
That doesn’t mean that the neighborhood is without change. While classics like Schmidt’s and Lindey’s and The Book Loft are celebrated destinations, new businesses like El Lugar, Alpine and Fox in the Snow are keeping the area fresh and exciting. And there’s more in store for German Village in 2019 as the northern edge is likely to see drastic change with new homes and a new hotel facing a revamped Livingston Avenue.
