Arts organizations supply the backbone for creativity in Columbus, and once again our readers and editors have selected the largest organization at the top of our list of the best of the year. The Greater Columbus Arts Council (GCAC) provides support for many other organizations on our list, as well as grants and programs for individuals artists.

2018 was a big year for GCAC, which spearheaded the creation of a new ticket tax program to increase funding available to the arts in Columbus. Multiple rounds of community input took place over the course of several months to help mold the proposal, which was approved by Columbus City Council in early December and will go into effect in mid 2019.
