The Peanut Shoppe Celebrates 80th Anniversary

Downtown nut and candy store The Peanut Shoppe is celebrating a big milestone in 2016. The store, which was founded at 5 South High Street in 1936, is officially 80 years old this week. The store has relocated several times during its lifespan, most recently to the corner of High and State Streets in 2014.

To celebrate the anniversary, co-owner Pat Stone said that the shop will feature specials to reflect the milestone, including 80 cent per half-pound of redskin peanuts. The anniversary also coincides with the 100th birthday of Mr. Peanut, the Planters Peanuts mascot that adorns the Downtown shop’s location with an iconic exterior neon sign.

“Eighty years is a very long run for a retail business and we want to share our celebration with our customers,” said Pat Stone, co-owner of The Peanut Shoppe. “We encourage everyone to stop in this week, enjoy the specials, take a selfie with Mr Peanut and relive a little Downtown history.”
