As reported last week, the Gateway Film Center is in the process of converting into a nonprofit entity. One of the facets of that conversion is a more robust focus on providing an arts experience for patrons that goes beyond the standard film fare.
Enter: The Gallery at the Gateway, a new movie-themed art gallery space that is housed within the GFC. All ticket-holding movie-goers (or customers of the Torpedo Room) will be granted complimentary admission to the gallery, which officially opens to the public on January 9th.
“We wanted to give Columbus artists an opportunity to tell stories through their work here at the film center and bring our movie programming to life in new ways,” explained GFC President Chris Hamel. “We love movies, and are always exploring those places where movies and arts intersect.”
The debut exhibition features the work of local artist and toy designer Tony Simione. The show, entitled “Not Human – Creatures in Film” focuses on classic villains from horror movies. All pieces on display in the exhibit will also be for sale, and the show is expected to run through Spring 2015.
