Winking Lizard Grandview has only been open six months, and already it’s become one of the hottest places to hang in the Grandview/5xNW area. Boasting 33 taps, 2 interior rooms, and a large 90-person patio complete with fire pit and 8 outdoor screens, Winking Lizard Grandview is a game-watching paradise.

The crowd at the popular haunt, located at 1416 West Fifth Avenue, is a healthy mix of current students, enthusiastic alumni, and happy-go-lucky locals. On Sundays, many families come in to support their favorite professional teams, and a good time is usually had by all.

The Winking Lizard tosses their wings in any one of 15 sauces. The Mild Wings are their version of the classic, and of the many wing sauces out there, this one comes the most dangerously and deliciously close to the Buffalo archetype.

It’s incredibly flavorful, almost overpowering on the first bite. But then you want more. The skin is crispy; the wing, plump and juicy. The saucing is light and palate-waking, and the heat is subtle but present. In my opinion, you need neither blue cheese nor ranch dressing for dipping.

For those who enjoy a saucy wing, the Spicy BBQ is right up your alley. It’s very saucy, and the flavoring is sweet, with an increasing heat that’s a winning offset for the sugariness. The thick coating of sauce might be off-putting for some, but the texture of the meat is never lost, and bonus: there’s always lot of finger-licking fun to be had at the end of the meal.

Winking Lizard Grandview opens at 9am for noon and 3:30 kickoffs, and at 11am for all other games.

We know what really matters most at the end of every game day is whether or not our team won, but enjoying the victory is equally as important. There’s no need to sacrifice good food for an awesome game day experience, or vice versa, so try one of these spots on the big day. And, as always, Go Bucks!
