While The Wood Companies are currently wrapping up work on The Dennison in Victorian Village, construction is in full swing inside The Diplomat — the four story building at Buttles and High that the company is redeveloping in collaboration with Schiff Capital Group. The second, third and fourth floors in the building are getting a total renovation, converting the existing 37 apartment smaller units into a slightly larger set of 34 apartment units.

The Diplomat renovation project was first announced on Columbus Underground in May 2014. Wood Companies President Mark Wood told CU last week during a hard hat tour that they expect to have the project completed sometime in Spring 2016.

Meanwhile, Schiff and Wood are bringing a revised proposal to the Victorian Village Commission in December to seek their approval to build a new nine-story office building in the parking lot next door to The Diplomat (with a separate parking garage a block away in Italian Village). While the two buildings will sit side-by-side, Wood said that they will not be interconnected internally, as the separate uses of office and residential don’t necessitate any connection.

Wood added that his Brunner Building project at 930 North High should also break ground this winter, and said that other projects including Hubbard Park Place and Parkside on Pearl would be pushed back to follow these other developments.
