In recent years, Target has generated cheap knockoffs of many “mid-century modern” items that ape those aesthetics, but the real deal can be found at the Boomerang Room in Clintonville.
The store is a mash-up of furniture, decorative items, functional kitchenware and collectibles like jewelry, lunchboxes and vinyl records. While there are a few older art-deco items and other antiques, the store’s bread-and-butter merchandise is culled from the kitchens and family, dining and rec rooms of the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s.
