Columbus has another building on the National Register of Historic Places. The Athletic Club of Columbus has made the list as of September 29, 2011. The Ohio Historic Site Preservation Advisory Board nominated the property in July.

The “six-story brick clubhouse, an example of Spanish Renaissance Revival with Italian influence, was designed by Richards, McCarty & Bulford with Frank L. Packard as Advisory Architect.” The beautiful structure stands at 136 East Broad Street. Notable members included Warren G. Harding, John W. Bricker, James Rhodes and Dave Thomas.

It was also the chosen site for the wedding of local restauranteur Liz Lessner and Harold LaRue.

“We chose the ACC because it’s a perfect combo of classy and kitschy,” said Lessner. “The rehearsal dinner in the basement bowling alley ruled!”

The club will be celebrating its centennial celebration in 2012.
