The Angry Baker Opens Friday in Olde Towne East
In October we announced that The Angry Baker would coming soon to the corner of Oak Street and 18th Street in Olde Towne East, and that time has just arrived. Owner Vicki Hink will be opening her doors at 891 Oak Street starting this Friday, January 28th for breakfast lunch and early-dinner service.
“We’ll be baking fresh breads every day in addition to offering cake by the slice, pies, some vegan stuff, cheesecakes, cookies, cinnamon rolls, croissants,” said Vicki. “We’re also serving sandwiches, soups and salads for breakfast, lunch and early dinner.”
“I also do speciality cakes for weddings and birthdays, available for special order,” she added.
The interior of The Angry Baker was overhauled to restore some of the historic charm of the building with exposed brick, tin ceilings and wood floors, and Vicki has focused the decor on a more vintage look to match.
“I want the space to feel comfortable and inviting,” she said. “I have a lot of antique baking equipment that we’re decorating with. This summer we’re planning on expanding our indoor seating to the sidewalk outside with the addition of a small patio.”
When asked about specialties her menu, one sandwich quickly jumped to mind as possible customer favorite.
“I’m doing one sandwich that’s a crispy chicken thigh with a poached egg and chimichurri micro greens,” Vicki said. “It’s called The Chicken & the Egg, and like all other sandwiches, comes with a mesclun side salad and is served on freshly baked bread made in the bakery.”
A resident of Olde Towne East, Vicki was interested in opening her shop close to home as well as bringing something unique to the area.
“I really love this area… it has a lot of potential,” she explained. “This area is slowly getting there, and I like being a part of that.”
The Angry Baker is located at 891 Oak Street in Olde Towne East and open Tuesday through Saturday from 8am to 8pm. Sunday and Monday, 8am to 5pm.
