Successful Fundraiser held for Youth Yoga Project

“We are so full of thanks to everyone,” Lauren Greenspan said about the party/fundraiser held over the weekend for the Youth Yoga Project at Balanced Yoga in Clintonville. Julia Handelman, Greenspan’ partner in the project, was also grateful and pleased at the turnout. “We are so happy with the kids here, their parents, and the support of the yoga community,” she says.

A dream for these two young educators who love yoga and know the benefits of it, the Yoga Youth Project is a non-profit providing yoga and wellness programs to improve physical, social, and emotional well-being and thus promote academic success for students. The curriculum that they have developed fulfills mandated requirements for physical education and character development in most schools.

Greenspan and Handelman were thrilled about their reception at Balance Yoga.

“Everyone has been so supportive of us,” says Handelman. Not only did Balanced Yoga provide their large, multiple studio spaces for the event on Sunday afternoon, but several local Clintonville restaurants, Mama Mimi’s Take and Bake Pizza, Pattycake Bakery, Fusian, and Acre, generously provided food food. A raffle was held with many prizes, including Thai Yoga massage by Charles Gibson.

Balanced Yoga was overflowing with kids, parents and yoga teachers for the fundraiser. Many of Greenspan and Handelman’s Youth Yoga Project T-shirts were sold, and old T-shirts were recycled into mini-canvases for kids to paint on.

The Youth Yoga Project has future fundraisers planned at Bluespot Yoga in Bexley and other locations in Columbus. The owner of Bluespot Yoga and recent new mom of Owen, Staci McCool, is very supportive of children’s education and yoga.

“Getting kids to calm down and focus can be the difference between staying in school and succeeding or not.” says Handelman. “I have seen yoga help with that.”
