After eight years in business, Substance will be closing up their doors 783 North High Street in mid-June. Owner Christina Getachew explains in a blog update on the Substance website that she will be relocating to South Carolina to support her husband who has accepted a new position with a company there.

“This isn’t a decision I’ve come to lightly, and more than anything else, I came to it through a desire to make my family my primary focus,” Getachew shared on her blog. “I have an unwaveringly supportive husband and two beautiful nine-year-old daughters. It has been a joy to see how Substance has grown over the years through collaboration with many talented partners and employees.”

Getachew explains that she considered options for selling her retail stores (there is a second location in Over-the-Rhine in Cincinnati, which will also close) but has not found an experienced entrepreneur who is qualified to make the investment. She said that she is still entertaining offers, but the timeline for transition to a new owner would need to be completed in April.

Customers will be able to redeem gift cards and make final purchases through the closing in mid-June. Everything in the store has been marked down 25% starting today, with deeper markdowns planned as the closing date draws closer.

“We all hope to see you in stores a few times before we close,” says Getachew. “Thank you for making these past eight years so wonderfully fulfilling for us.”
