Studio 35 will be temporarily closing their doors starting on March 10th to undergo some renovations, marking the first time since in roughly 40 years that the theatre has been closed for an extended period of time.
“We probably could have stayed open during construction, but felt it would be faster to close and then reopen,” said Eric Brembeck, co-owner of Studio 35. “February through April are usually slower movie months, and I’m not sure many people would have want to come in to the theater in the middle of a construction zone anyway.”
The theatre will receive several updates including new soundproofing walls, new carpet and newly painted floors in the auditorium along with updates to the concessions area. The theatre will also add digital projectors as 35mm film will be phasing out in 2013.
“We know Studio 35 fans love the way the theater feels, and how comfy, cozy, funky and retro it is inside,” said Brembeck. “Rest assured, we have spent many hours and had numerous discussions to make sure the charm is retained and improved upon.”
Studio 35 will be hosting a Hibernation Party this Friday, March 9th with a free showing of Anchorman at 7:30pm, which will give patrons one last chance to see the space before renovations begin. The theater will reopen in early May to host a live interactive podcast event with Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes on May 17th.
Construction progress will be updated on the Studio 35 Facebook page, and more information can be found online at www.studio35.com.
