Stauf’s Coffee Roasters has officially closed its stall inside of the recently-opened Budd Dairy Food Hall, 1086 N. Fourth St. in Italian Village.

The local roaster was announced as one of the Food Hall’s vendors in October 2019. The project subsequently saw a number of delays due to the coronavirus pandemic, pushing back the opening from early 2020, to April 2021.

“COVID-19 presented some unique challenges to this location for us and we, along with our partners at Cameron Mitchell Restaurants, decided that the space would be of better use elsewhere,” Stauf’s Owner Mark Swanson said in a statement on the closure. “We are so thankful for the opportunity to work alongside some incredible Chef Partners, meet some new people and, of course, spread our love of coffee all the way down 4th Street.”

When Budd Dairy initially opened its doors, hours were geared toward dinner service during the week, with an 11 a.m. opening time on the weekends. More recently, the Food Hall had expanded into lunch hours on Thursday and Fridays.

Stauf’s closure at Budd Dairy will be more of a “see you later” for the neighborhood as opposed to a goodbye. Swanson said they’re not finished with Italian Village just yet.

“We are looking at several sites around the neighborhood to place an Italian Village Stauf’s and will keep you all updated in the coming months,” Swanson said.

Stauf’s operates four additional coffee shops – Grandview, German Village, Victorian Village and North Market, with their Idea Foundry and Discovery District locations still temporarily closed due to the pandemic.
