St. James Tavern Scheduled to Reopen After Fire

On August 10, a fire broke out at Italian Village neighborhood bar The St. James Tavern, and the business has been shuttered ever since.

Now, after a month and a half of repairs, St. James is ready to re-launch on Saturday, September 30.

“After seven of the longest weeks of my life and almost losing my mind a few times, the beautiful and historic St. James Tavern in the one and only Italian Village is opening its doors for business again,” posted owner Michelle Hill on Facebook last Friday. “Please come help us celebrate and raise a pint to recovery.”

The reopening party will take place at the bar, located at 1057 N. Fourth St., starting at 7 p.m. Customers can expect little to have changed during the process, as the fire was contained to a storage room within in the building.

“The storage room has been rebuilt, all new electric ran and all inspections passed,” confirmed Hill via email. “The St. James is as good as new.”
