More creative office space is coming soon to the Short North, as co-working firm Spaces has officially announced that their first Midwest location will open at 711 N. High St. The company just signed a lease to occupy three floors of the new nine-story office building that is currently under construction.
Spaces currently operates locations across the globe, from Sao Paulo to Hong Kong to Atlanta to Cape Town. The company’s website lists 35 locations as “coming soon,” indicating that the Columbus location is just one small piece of a rapid expansion plan for 2018.
“Demand to be a part of the Spaces community continues to drive our expansion,” said Michael Berretta, Vice President of Network Development, Americas, Spaces. “Columbus and particularly the Short North neighborhood is the perfect location for our expanding network. Both established businesses and start-ups are choosing to call the area home.”
The 42,000 square feet of space that Spaces is leasing will feature a mix of shorter term and longer term creative office space to sublet, along with shared amenities.
The building at 711 N. High St. contains an additional 25,000 square feet of office space still available for lease on the second, third and seventh floors. Pillar Technology previously signed a lease for office space on the eighth and ninth floors while Cameron Mitchell Restaurants will operate both the ground floor and rooftop dining areas with concepts that have not yet been unveiled.
“We are thrilled to be 75 percent leased with such quality tenants at this point in construction,” stated Michael Schiff, CEO of Schiff Capital Group, one of the building’s development partners.
Spaces is the latest coworking operator to announce plans for the Short North neighborhood. Industrious opened inside The Joseph office building in 2015 and Serendipity Labs has announced a Short North location in the new four-story building replacing the former UDF at First and High. Additional coworking spots are also in the pipeline in other parts of the city, with local operators like Versa planning three location openings in 2018.
