    Skybus-founder Launches New JetAmerica Service

We’ve heard rumors over the past year that Skybus-founder John Weikle has been shopping his low-cost airfare concept around to different Ohio cities. Dayton, Cincinnati, and Springfield were all previously mentioned, but the official news announced today includes none of the above.

Starting on July 13th, JetAmerica will launch with nonstop passenger flight services between cities including Toledo, South Bend, Melbourne (Florida), Newark, Minneapolis, and Lansing. Similarly to Skybus, JetAmerica will continue to operate out of mid-sized airports to keep costs low, and will offer a familiar sounding “first 9 seats are only $9 on every flight” enticement to their online ticket sales.

More information (and tickets) can be found online at www.JetAmerica.com.

Update (July 17, 2009): Without ever getting a single plane in the sky, JetAmerica has folded. Third time’s the charm?
