Shanes Gourmet Adds Comedy to the Lineup

When Shanes Gourmet, the catering staple in downtown Columbus for over thirty years, introduced mystery dinner theater in 2011, the response was overwhelmingly positive. Partnered with Cloak & Dagger Dinner Theater, the longest running in Central Ohio, Shanes changed their image from purely a gourmet market to a viable entertainment venue.

Building on that success, Shanes will now be a full-time entertainment site, offering improv and stand-up comedy nights, bingo nights, and even salsa dancing. The goal is to have something dynamic every night of the week, with a rotating schedule of performers and acts featured on a brand new permanent stage with quality theater lighting and a brilliant sound system.

Shanes will be inviting diners for “something beyond dinner theater… [which] is here to stay, [but] other nights you can stop in and catch a variety of shows, enjoy some drinks and a light bar menu” General Manager Scott Morit insists. “We’re evolving into an entertainment venue to offer more options to the great customer base”.

This Wednesday, February 20th, will be the first comedy night at Shanes featuring the TBD Improv Troupe at 8:30pm, and stand-up from 10:30pm. The night will be emceed by local popular guy Johnny DiLoretto, who’s set to be the regular host  on comedy nights. Shanes is still a catering company, and maintains that they  “will still offer excellent food and catering service”, but are adding fresh forms of entertainment to liven up the night scene customers have come to enjoy.
