Set Your Drinks to Blaze at The Grass Skirt Tiki Room

Looking for a little heat this winter? Then head over to Grass Skirt Tiki Room for the Flaming CocoNaut Reentry, a this-one-sneaks-up-on-you libation for 2-4 people depending on your thirst, your greed, and/or how many sips it takes to make you all giggly. It’s made from cream of coconut, fresh squeezed lime juice, and Myer’s Dark Rum. Bacardi 151, the lighter fluid behind great tropical drinks, is set ablaze for the pleasure of the drinking audience. The concoction itself is surprisingly light and refreshing, which only encourages the imbiber to slurp happily till it’s all gone.

Not in the mood to  share? Then order the House Zombie, a sneaky, no-good-can-come-from-this cocktail made with Pernot, Cruzan Single Barrel Rum, Bacardi 151 (yeah, you know it), and in-house Demarara syrup and grenadine. One tiki glass of this and you’ll feel transported to some off-the-path beach on some middle-of-nowhere-island where there’s only one bartender, and he’s there for you – shirtless.

The Ahu’s Navy Grog #2 is an intriguing and unpredictable invention that uses more of that Myer’s Dark Rum, Fernet Branca, a bitter liqueur that adds warmth and depth, Falernum, a nutty, spicy Caribbean-based syrup, fresh grapefruit and lime juices, and finished with Angostura bitters. The taste is deep and lush, definitely for those who don’t love fruity drinks but appreciates the versatility of rum and its accoutrements.

Whatever your palate, the Grass Skirt Tiki Room will make you happy. They light drinks on fire every week on Tiki Tuesdays, although, if you ask, they’ll probably light a drink on fire for you any night of the week. The folks at Grass Skirt are fun and generous, there’s a full menu of decent noshes, and lots of free parking. So take a poor man’s vacation the next time you start feeling those Columbus blues. The Grass Skirt Tiki Room is located at 105 N. Grant Avenue.
