March for Our Lives movements are happening throughout the country today. Thousands of people participated in the March For Our Lives in Downtown Columbus. A rally began at West Bank Park at 10am, then participants marched to the Ohio Statehouse.
Marches have been organized by students and survivors of gun violence.
“As a child of educators, I am afraid for the safety of my family while working in classrooms, which are meant to be safe spaces. That’s why I march,” said Megan Briegel in a statement. Briegle is an organizer for March For Our Lives Columbus and Capital University student.
Columbus Alternative High School senior and organizer Kanyinsola Oye said, “I march not only for mass shootings, but for gun violence of all forms affecting various communities.”
Downtown was blocked off by police vehicles and helicopters hovered in the sky. Here are scenes from today’s movement at about 1:30pm.
