“This is one of the most technically advanced recycling facilities in the country,” said Senior Communication Coordinator Jonathan Kissell. “It’s the newest as well.”

The new technology upgrades includes five optical scanner machines that sort recycling via infrared lights that control air pressure systems to push different types of materials into different systems for further processing.

“This is a major multi-million dollar investment from Rumpke,” said Kissell. “Not only is it an investment in recycling, it’s an investment in our Columbus operation. The more this grows, the more truck drivers we need, the more sales people we need, more accountants, more customer service reps, and so on. This investment allows us to add more jobs here in Columbus.”

The new equipment allows Rumpke to expand its residential recycling programs, which are expected to grow considerably in 2012 as The City of Columbus rolls out a new city-wide recycling program targeting single family homes. The City of Columbus currently partners with Rumpke to offer a paid subscription-based curbside recycling program.
