Last week, representatives at Campus Partners announced a third restaurant lined up for the new “University Square” development located at 15th and High in the heart of the University District. Virginia-based chain Roots Natural Kitchen will be opening its first Ohio location there, alongside the previously announced Barrio and LemonShark.

Roots Natural is described as a fast-casual restaurant with a focus on healthy grain bowls. After launching near the University of Virginia in 2015, the concept has quickly expanded to nine locations around the US with two more opening before the end of the year.

The new restaurant is slated for a November opening. Current construction at University Square is expected to continue through Summer 2022 with additional buildings at the 16-acre development yet to begin.

One of key features of the new development is the central pedestrian plaza that functions as a gathering space and outdoor dining space for the area restaurants and cafes, including Roots Natural Kitchen.

“The purpose of this plaza is to serve as an informal living room with a distinct energy,” stated Amanda Hoffsis, President of Campus Partners. “Throughout its history, the 15th Avenue and High Street intersection has served as a front door to the university. This new public plaza will serve as an important gathering place with greenspace and seating areas plus eateries and pubs.”
