Representatives from Capitol Equities and Architectural Alliance presented a slightly modified plan today to the Downtown Commission for their rooftop patio project at the iconic Smith Bros. Hardware Building.

The plan — which was preliminarily shown to the Commission back in January — didn’t have too many updates from the original, which would create a new 12,000 square foot event venue on the roof of the six-story structure to compliment the existing event spaces on the ground floor.

Architect Brad Parish explained that they really only tweaked the kitchen and bathroom layouts, while the footprint of the rooftop deck would remain the same as originally presented.

There’s currently no start date announced for when construction will begin, but Capitol Equities Project Manager Becca Caprini stated that they hope to have the facility operational in time for the Arnold Sports Festival in March, 2017.

The Downtown Commission voted to approve the project as presented today.
